Twisted tales put to comedy.
A
couple of years ago, two young men from Manitoba Canada embarked on a
journey. It was a journey to create the most hilariously
disturbing and darkly peculiar humour anywhere on the internet. I
believed that they have accomplished this goal with tainted minds,
filming equipment, and bucketloads of talent.
They are the brilliant jackals of
Greypoint Films, Incorporated.Meet
Matt Kennedy and Conor Sweeney, slender sharp and unassuming fellows
who create short films for public consumption (never dropping the hint
that some may not be able to stomach it). Matt is the dark-haired
force of nature, while Conor is the cherubic accomplice who might
actually be the more demonic of the duo.
Action-packed with
entirely subtle homage and reference to the great films of the
eighties, the boys from Greypoint offer a series of morally flexible
tales to tickle the blackened heart of hardcore fancy. These
short films are fearlessly written, and performed by Matt and Conor,
along with
Adam Brooks, Aaron Bland and a number of other regulars with blatant ham or passivity wherever they felt it was appropriate.
They
certainly are not strangers to the theater of the absurd as they are
steadfast David Wain fans. Such bizarre antics are evident in "
Toby the Alien", "
Wicked Shoes" and my favourite, "
Cool Dan".
Their love of the eerie is not overlooked...Hints of David Lynch turn
up from time to time throughout their work, like "
Avalanche", "
Tribute to a Hero" and "
Tyger Tyger", where misunderstandings lead to tension, or perhaps even violent hostility.
Presently,
little else is known about these lucky lads. With time, I am
hoping to unveil more of their history, as well as their intentions.
I
personally think they are geniuses, and I write this as a fan of their
work. I hope to be a part of whatever exposure and notoriety that
they manage to summon in my neck of the woods. I discovered them
quite by accident while doing my routine YouTube surf, and I am glad I
did.
I don't know if it was the humdrum vacuum of Manitoba life, the
incredible support that their community lends them, or simply a burning
desire to have their material viewed that drove them to this
point. Whatever it was, I hope they can use it to carry on.
I can't get enough of their crazy clips, and I am thankful there is such a thing as Greypoint Films.
